This item is not good enough to be a collectible and not fun enough to be a toy. I find it best suited as an accessory to a costume. If he works properly, he is neat. When we first received the wand, we put rechargeable batteries in it (there were no others on hand) and it worked as expected. But after a few minutes, the wand began to work erratically, and the light dimmed and brightened on its own. So I thought maybe the batteries were dead so I took them out and checked them out. They weren't back enough to leave. And the wand worked as it should again. A few minutes later the problems returned. So I just opened and closed the battery door to turn the wand on and off again and it worked again. Other reviews show other buyers saw the same thing. I thought it might be battery related so I bought a set of alkaline batteries and that solved the problem. It seems that the voltage of the rechargeable battery may not be sufficient for the wand to work properly. So if you are having trouble with the wand dimming or not working well, try replacing the batteries. I returned the wand and bought Hermione's practice wand. Instead of. This is clearly a toy. Doesn't even pretend to be a replica. But it has a sound and allows you to play different spells. My daughter thought it was a lot funnier and a little cheaper. So if you are looking for a toy, check it out.
