This item is not good enough to be a collectible and not fun enough to be a toy. I find it best suited as an accessory to a costume. If he works properly, he is neat. I thought it might be battery related so I bought a set of alkaline batteries and that solved the problem. It seems that the voltage of the rechargeable battery may not be sufficient for the wand to work properly. So if you are having trouble with the wand dimming or not working well, try replacing the batteries. I returned the wand and bought Hermione's practice wand. Instead of. This is clearly a toy. Doesn't even pretend to be a replica. But it has a sound and allows you to play different spells. My daughter thought it was a lot funnier and a little cheaper.
