The detailing on the fabrication parts isn't too great - welds look sloppy, parts don't always perfectly match. Therefore, the vertical lines of the resulting metal frames don't look perfectly straight. Overall, though, they look good, if not too picky. It's not hard to figure out how to assemble them, but the instructions aren't perfect. You have a few decisions to make. One thing I can leave out after a wrong guess is making sure you have the six side pieces in the correct relationship to each other - there is only one correct placement for each. Make sure that all the holes for the cross straps point in the same direction! The "wood" shelves are great, although obviously not solid wood, but sturdy. The one feature that convinced me to buy this relatively inexpensive unit is that the metal bar that supports each shelf probably goes a long way in preventing them from sagging under the weight of a full set of books. I'll update if this turns out to be false hope!
