I've had security cameras from famous brands for years, two of which eventually said they'd had enough and drowned themselves. Small cracks appeared in the camera body itself, where it connects to the mounting base, allowing the water to do the rest. Now I've only been using this camera for a few days, but so far I'm impressed enough to bring it here and write a review. Due to the strongly varying solar radiation, our house on the water is also a challenge for surveillance cameras during the day. All six of my cameras that illuminate the water side of the site struggle when the area they cover is split between full shadow and bright sunlight. My famous brand cameras fully reveal the light part of the image, you won't see an elephant passing by! Not this little guy, but the photo I've attached tells the story. Note that nothing has been done to this image other than cropping to remove the maker's name from it. With my other cameras, the sunlit portion of this photo would have been so heavily lit that it would have been difficult for you to see the windows, let alone the furniture. And if you look closely in the corner of the sliding glass door, you will see LED spotlights with motion sensors. They are very bright and will really cause problems with my old camera. When these LEDs were turned on at night, the camera image was mirrored so badly that I couldn't tell if my golden retriever was at the sliding door. I tested it several times last night and this Zosi cam was great. When LED spotlights came out, Zosi gave me a great picture with no glare. Forget the dog, now I can check the records and finally find out which cat keeps leaving dead little gifts outside that door for me. This camera is mounted on top of the deck rail, completely open to destruction. It shouldn't take long to find out just how well built it is. Would I recommend this camera to a friend? Not yet, I will add it in a few months but if the picture quality stays the way it is then yes I would like to. But in the meantime, I'm buying two more of these to replace a couple of other well-known brands' cameras that I'm no longer happy with. Keep in mind that a 3.66mm lens does not provide a large field of view. So if you're trying to cover a large area with a single camera, this may not be the camera for you. Since the deck is accent lit at night, I can't give you an honest opinion on the capabilities of infrared. Although I certainly didn't notice any difference from the camera it replaced. PS: If you have an area where your cameras don't provide enough IR illumination, you can consider simply adding an IR emitter. They are inexpensive and can provide plenty of light in places you currently cannot see at night. Find Revain for CCTV ir illuminator.
