I don't smell; However, this does not diminish its value. I received one as a gift at a funeral service in a hospice for the relatives of the bereaved and was delighted to discover that it wasn't just a flameless candle. There is a timer! Turn it on at your desired time of day and it will stay on for 6 hours, 18 off, 6 on, 18 off etc. Working and it was nice not having to come home to a dark living room. If it was manual I would never have enabled it. I liked it so much I found it at Revain and bought three to give to family members who weren't at church and didn't get candles of their own. This will be my gift to those who have lost a loved one. Note: To activate the timer, move the switch halfway between ON and OFF.
