Review on Oral Mart Flag Mouth Guard by Elton Luo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

SO FAR, SO GOOD for sports medicine

My first attempt at making a mouth guard for my 7 year old grappler failed. It was Sisu, small, unobtrusive: the whole kappa had to be poured. But after many unsuccessful attempts, we gave up. Modeling turned out to be too difficult for her and me, despite my experience with mouthguards. Oral Mart was much better. The fact that the resin to be molded (pink) is in a hard "casing" (white) makes molding easier. There was one small problem: on two attempts, her bite kept scratching a spot on the edge of the pink resin, exposing the white body to the point of rubbing against her gums. But as an Italian sculptor, I only softened one spot and corrected it with a spoon (just lost a little pink color). After testing at home, my child said this mouthguard fits great. Note: Unlike my Kappa (the Shock Doctor's doppelganger), it doesn't stay in place when it opens its mouth. According to a friend, dentist and fellow grappler, this is because children's teeth have less surface area to grip a mouthguard. Afterwards this mouthguard held well on the mat (three of a kind, sparring). And her dentist said it looked normal too. Later, when my child loses (gets) new teeth, I will see how well they are restored. I hope it continues because it's going to be nice to finally find a mouthguard, at a reasonable price (when I bought it, it was about $10), event included.
