Review on 🎧 Altec Lansing True Evo+: Wireless Earphones with 4 Hour Battery Life & Voice Assistant Compatibility by Maria Ngo

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great sound quality, but tricky Bluetooth is holding it back. (compare with LifeDot2 and Gumy)

Foreword: I'm not a music lover, but I have experience with "budget" headphones that still sound good - for example Koss KTXPRO1 and PortaPros, JVC Flats, etc. I also have Anker SoundBuds Slim and Anker Soundcore Life Dot2 headphones which I really like. So keep in mind that all of my comments are about budget headphones, not high-end audiophile stuff. . But I have some real reservations about some aspects of them, especially when compared to the Life Dot2 and the newer JVC Gumy True Wireless. Here's what I like so far: - Secure Fit: You stay secure, although it requires some adjustment. . I had to change and replace all 4 headphone options with others, of which there are many in the kit, which is nice. Now that I've dialed the number I don't see it going anywhere - Sound quality: Surprisingly good. Podcasts in particular are handled very well by them. Musically they were also unexpected, especially in the bass part. Bass is usually lacking in the cheap wireless headphones I've tried, but it's certainly acceptable here. The highs sound great too. slightly "grainy" if that makes sense, but again acceptable. Overall very enjoyable to listen to (at least for podcasts and hip-hop/rap, that's all I listen to). I definitely prefer their Life Dot2 and Gumy sounds. Do not fit the headphones properly as this will affect the sound quality. If they are too loose in the ears or too "squeezed", they don't sound as good. Wireless Charging Pad: This is very cool. Instead of having to plug and unplug a small charging/carrying case, you can simply clip it to your wireless charger and take it with you on the go. While this is a VERY small convenience, it is a convenience nonetheless! Things in between: - Calls: My wife tried to call me with this and it sounded clear if not a little distant/faint, but then again it seems like it's somewhat inevitable with a mic placed on your ear. Call quality appears to be the same as Life Dot2 and Gumy. Things that don't excite me: - Comfort: They've chosen an interesting parallelogram/diamond square shape, which isn't very comfortable to my ears, even after a short time. I prefer the teardrop shape of the Life Dot2 or the airpod shape of the Gumy. I've tried various configurations of the included headphones (of which there are many) and still haven't found a comfortable fit. However, this is very subjective and they may suit you, so I'm not deducting a star for that. although I suspect it could cause problems for many people. - Connectivity: In most cases, they connect to my phone quickly/easily by simply taking them out of the case. However, sometimes I have to fiddle with the headphones' separate power buttons to connect them, which can be annoying. However, the worst thing about these headphones is the Bluetooth range. This is by far the worst thing I've ever experienced with a device. The audio sometimes cuts out when I have my phone in my back pocket and my hand is dangling between the phone and the headphones! It is strange. Maybe I got a defective pair? I'll mention it anyway if it's not an isolated case. - Overall Quality: I might not have noticed otherwise, but because I have Life Dot2 and Gumy to compare. It is noticeable that the Evo+s are not that good in overall quality. Everything about Life Dot2 and Gumy feels tight, well put together, well thought out and solid. Everything about the Evo+ is a little cheaper, stretchier, lighter/hollower. They just don't make a good impression. If they hold up well, it's just a matter of aesthetics. only time can tell. Aesthetics: Speaking of aesthetics, they stick out of the ears more than the slimmer models. it's like thin Frankenstein bolts flying out of your ears! Overall they offer really amazing sound for the price and I like them for that reason. Unfortunately, they have a few downsides that keep me from recommending them, namely fiddly Bluetooth connectivity and convenience. However, if sound quality is your absolute and only priority - or if you always keep your phone close to your headphones - you might want to check them out!
