This is a pretty little cake stand. I chose the 10" model because it fits 8" or 9" round cupcakes, the two standard cupcake pans I use when baking a cake at home. This stand is made of metal, probably aluminum (I think) or maybe steel with a smooth gloss black finish. When I saw on the seller's listing that this cake stand was metal I thought it would be heavy black iron but it isn't, it is light weight metal easy to carry from place to place. The stand arrived piece by piece in a flat box and was very easy to assemble: just screw the pieces of the stand together and then screw the stand onto the main surface that holds the cake. This stand is very versatile as you can leave the extra base part for the short cake stand or use both for the taller one depending on what you prefer or what suits your needs. This cake stand is also versatile as it can be used for many things other than cake. Looks gorgeous with a bouquet of flowers, small potted plants, candles, soaps or any other decorative or holiday item you want to highlight, draw attention and display. If you use it for food I recommend hand washing it thoroughly afterwards as I wouldn't recommend washing it in the dishwasher. I also recommend handling it with care to avoid denting the alloy or chipping the paint. When using with cake or cheese I would definitely protect the surface of the coaster with cardboard or maybe a silicone mat cut to size as I would be afraid of a cake knife or cheese knife scratching the surface. Cake stand that can be used at two different heights. I like that it's black as most of my sockets are white. This adds a nice contrast when paired with white and is also a suitable color to use alone, for example for Halloween. highlighted.
