Great upgrade for an old laptop. - Installation Guide.

I had a very slow ASUS laptop that was about 2.5 years old. It had a 2nd generation Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It took forever to load and website browsing was very slow. I mainly use my laptop to check email, surf the web and download photos from my digital camera. I'm not a power user so I couldn't reasonably spend hundreds of dollars to replace it. Also, I'm not a fan of Windows 8 which comes installed on almost all new laptops, which has put me off buying a new laptop (I currently have Windows 7). I recently heard how replacing an old mechanical hard drive with an SSD will boost the performance of any PC. I wasn't sure how much better it would be since I won't be upgrading the processor. Once I installed the SSD, it was a whole new world. The laptop booted up in seconds, not minutes. Apps opened faster and everything was more responsive. Until now, I never realized how much a mechanical hard drive limits laptop performance (as opposed to a CPU). I don't think adding more RAM can increase performance that much. I want you to know that the hard drive replacement was very easy. At first I was stunned because I couldn't find any easy installation instructions online. I was afraid that if I got it wrong I would lose all my data (especially my photos) or ruin my laptop because I don't have a Windows OS installation disc (ps you don't need it). I decided to share my installation experience with people who are newbies like me. The steps below are for upgrading a hard drive on a regular laptop (ie I'm not sure my instructions will work for a MacBook). Most people simply replace their hard drives and most likely don't have an external hard drive to back up their data. It's good. Also, you don't need a Windows installation disc because you don't have to reinstall any software. The following steps will copy EVERYTHING from your old hard drive to your SSD including the operating system, applications, programs, photos, device drivers, etc. Before you begin, make sure you have the following items: 1) Make sure that Your new The SSD has enough space to copy all your existing data. My original laptop hard drive was 300GB but I only used 60GB. I bought a 120GB SSD and everything was fine. 2) Small Phillips screwdriver (hope you already have one at home) 3) 2.5" SATA III enclosure (sold separately). I purchased the following Sabrent USB 3.0 Enclosure and it actually came with a Phillips head screwdriver. I personally didn't like the Sabrent case because it looked and felt cheap, but it worked. 2.5" HDD/SSD (SATA-I, SATA-II, SATA-III) Black (EC-TB4P) Install the SSD in a 2.5" SATA hard disk enclosure. 2) Plug the case into your laptop's USB port (USB 3.0 is MUCH faster than USB 2.0). 3) Install HDD cloning software on laptop (Samsung provides software with SSD). 4) Follow the instructions to clone old laptop hard drive to new SSD (Samsung software makes it very easy). 5) Turn off your r, unplug the power cord, remove the battery and remove the old hard drive. 6) Remove the SSD from the case and install it in the laptop. 7) Reinsert the battery, connect the power supply and restart the laptop. 8) Done! Rebooting the laptop in step 7 is very quick. That's when you realize that the new SSD was worth the upgrade.[.]
