GO TO THE END OF THIS REVIEW TO SEE MY THOUGHTS AFTER USING THIS MIC FOR MORE THAN 4 MONTHS. Flautist (flautist) in a school band in central Florida. I didn't want to buy a Countryman or anything because it's a high school marching band in the middle of central humidity/heat. But it had to sound good enough to fill the stadium during the marching band's performance. This small mic from Pyle ROCKS sounds great - a very natural flute sound when the mic capsule is mounted directly over the player's mouth. Anything below 100Hz has been removed to eliminate breath and wind noise. Okay I bought a couple of these as I anticipate we will have crashes due to the proximity to heat, humidity, sweat etc. But for $15 each, I'm fine with that. If I use both, I'll have more through Revain the next day. I can see where these mics would be good for children's/school theater but I wouldn't hesitate to use them in dinner theater situations as well. I've been using this mic for a week now - at the end of Marching Band season I'll report back on how the mic works and how far I've gotten. UPDATE: I've been using this mic for over a month now and am still completely satisfied with it and my usage. I didn't have to use the backup unit I bought (just in case). As an alternative (backup) to the more expensive "professional" equipment he used to buy, he turned to my local theater manager. I bought it and it works great. I cannot recommend this device for its price and use. LATE SEASON UPDATE: STILL with the original microphone. Didn't have to take the backup device out of the box. He survived an entire orchestra season in hot, muggy, and humid central Florida. We had many comments from other school orchestras about how natural the flute sounded with this mic (one group accused us of using a recording). Not sure what other people are doing to have the negative experiences they reported - school kids using this mic were NOT gentle and it just sounds great!
