Well-made 12-port multi-HDMI monitor with USB-C dock support and solid audio support!

iVANKY 4K@60Hz Macbook Pro Dock - Universal USB C USB C Dock offers a very wide range of options but I'm trying to figure out which dock can buy be very disappointing and confusing. I've tried probably half a dozen or more and have come back with all but two. One of the ones I left is extremely portable, lightweight, fairly affordable, and does what I need on the go. The other is the new iVANKY model, which is neither of those things but offers features my travel dock just can't match. change same entity as products and reviews may be added to the wrong page/product in some cases. I am reviewing here iVANKY 4K@60Hz MacBook Pro Dock with 180W Power Adapter, 12-in-2 Triple Display Dock with 18W PD Power and USB 3.0 Ports for MacBook Pro and Air (2 HDMI, RJ45, SD/TF, 6 USB ports ). A lot has already been said here about how well this dock performs (see e.g. E_L_F's January 15, 2021 review for a detailed assessment!), so I won't go into every possible configuration and/or various speed tests etc E. Unique among most USB-C docking stations is the included dual USB-C cable. Inch Dell U3818DW. All three displays worked fine, although I couldn't get the full resolution of 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz on the U3011t. I've tried using an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter as well as a dedicated DisplayPort to HDMI cable, but neither of these settings connects to a signal. Unfortunately, the highest resolution I could get was the standard 1920 x 1200. On the other hand, the U3918DW showed a full 3840 x 1600, albeit with a disclaimer for the "low resolution" displayed in the macOS display panel, which like me I suspect it is related to the integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 GPU used in my Mac. However, there were three monitors (including the internal display), all of which worked perfectly and all just used my slightly outdated 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Core i5 processor. To test the different ports, I added a 64GB flash drive, a 32GB SD card, two compatible external bus-powered drives (one was an SSD and the other was a hybrid drive), a USB -C drive plus a gigabit ethernet connection and it all worked great with high transfer speeds and no noticeable lag that I could tell I was a bit surprised as these devices are all USB bus powered. I was also surprised at how cool the dock felt with all those ports, including the power source for the MacBook Pro itself, which I'm sure the large external power supply helps with. As an audio engineer, I always pay attention to how the 3.5mm audio output is handled in a USB-C dock in many of my daily jobs. Luckily, iVANKY gets it right and allows the macOS soundbar to control the level like a standard USB audio device. Surprisingly, most of the low-to-mid-range USB-C docks I've tried tend to handle the audio output and either don't deliver the full output level or aren't controlled by the Mac itself at all, which to me are both total breach of the agreement. Finally, as I mentioned at the beginning, I also tried this dock with a 2021 Mac mini (the one with the new Apple M1 chip). Everything worked fine with the USB connection, but no matter what I tried with iVANKY, I could only get one monitor to display. Unfortunately this is a known issue with these Macs as currently the only way to use the M1 Mac mini with dual monitors is to connect one via HDMI and the other via Thunderbolt 4. Having a full multi-monitor and being able to use three displays would be great if Apple supported dual HDMI output in the current M1 range. Maybe the next generation M2? or MX? On standard Macs, this limitation is eliminated; the time will show. $139 isn't a "buy it now" sort of thing, but if you have a 2016 or later MacBook Pro or a 2018 or later MacBook Air, you want a really high-quality 12-port multi-HDMI -Monitor supports docking USB-C station with solid audio support, rest assured you can't go wrong with this docking station. PROS * 12 ports, all working as advertised * Multi-monitor support, in my example 3 screens run simultaneously with no noticeable screen lag or glitches * Powerful 180W 9A power supply ensures smooth operation * Audio output is correct through the 3.5mm connector * Works great with most Mac laptops with a USB-C connector (M1 series has video limitations)* You get what you pay for and this dock belongs in the premium category. CONS * It's not a lightweight travel dock in my opinion, it's a hefty little beast and needs to be plugged into an AC power source, which maybe isn't really a negative aspect. , but something to consider before buying.* A little pricey for the average user* No video support via dual USB-C ports* Multi-monitor incompatibility with 2021 Mac mini (limitation of current Apple M1 hardware, not iVANKY )* Dual port USB C connector cable limits compatibility with some USB-C devices Additional considerations... *I've encountered a strange charging issue where my MacBook Pro shows it works as expected with the iVANKY Dual USB C cable attached charging only to suddenly find that my battery is completely dead and the mac shuts down even though the dual cable was never unplugged. This happened twice and after restarting the Mac I didn't see it again. I'm currently awaiting a response from iVANKY tech to see what they have to say on this. after a few minutes, the fans started spinning wildly, which I almost never had, except during render-heavy Final Cut Pro X work, which is very rare. We're hoping that something can be done with the firmware of the iVANKY part etc to alleviate this pesky artifact of the otherwise pretty excellent USB-C dock.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something
