Not sure if I've received an upgrade or not but my kit fits perfectly. Bought on 7/20/19. I don't think people understand that you can't just put them in their place. First you insert the rear (metal clip) and then press on the back of the car to release the plastic clip on the front. Once the front plastic clip is behind the fender, press in and slide forward. This will clamp and lock the product like the original part. The foam can make it difficult to push through the blocks, but that's a good thing. It fits snugly onto the fender and helps maintain the barrier rather than making quite a seal (you don't need a full seal). We'll see how they hold up over time, but when it comes to fit, they're top notch.
