Review on 💻 LG Gram 14Z90P - Ultra-Lightweight Laptop 2021: 14" WUXGA, Intel Evo i7 1165G7 CPU, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Alexa, 25.5H Battery by Luis Estrella

I got this device to replace my Dell The 2018 Bought XPS 13 which I unfortunately only bought with 8GB RAM. When it became clear earlier this year that this wasn't enough for me, I looked around for ultrabooks with the option of expanding storage, just to be on the safe side. Not wanting to give Lenovo money, I opted for LG Gram 14. Summary Excellent car. Responsiveness is quick under light loads on both Linux and Windows, and for an Ultrabook it handles heavy workloads quite well. It seems quite well built and, as always with LG Gram laptops, extremely light. This is one of the latest developments in Intel's ultra-low-voltage lineup, designed for computers with a slim profile and equally thin cooling capabilities. As the test page, which has created an extensive performance profile, states, the device does not heat up under light load, only moderately under heavy load, and the fan hardly makes any noise. Of course, the trade-off here is less power than heavier machines with the same processor and more powerful cooling solutions. For my purpose (photo editing and software development) this is completely sufficient. Using multiple displays through integrated graphics is very smooth. The maximum speed is around 1600 MB/s. The average access time is about 0.04 ms. Assembly This is one of the lightest Ultrabooks you can buy today, and it does take some sacrifices. Most of the time, the magnesium case is considerably more flexible than an XPS or MacBook case. There is no squeak, but I would recommend transporting it in a suitcase. and a MicroSD card slot and Thunderbolt port that can also be used for in-car charging. Oddly enough, it comes with a barrel charger. A USB charger would be nice, but I think there is an option to just free up the USB port -C/Thunderbolt for some peripherals without a charger is good. Keyboard Keyboard feel is decent, with enough travel for comfortable typing and a fairly well thought-out layout. However, I would have liked the multimedia hotkeys on the function keys and the Fn lock. Other than that, it's a pretty standard issue. trackpad. This is a typical precision trackpad. Compared to what it was ten years ago, it's just fantastic. Today it's just an average. I have no complaints but there is nothing special to note. Advertisement This machine's glossy LG display is a joy to behold. It's sharp, has good contrast, and doesn't seem to have any immediately noticeable flare. I haven't checked the color accuracy yet because I use an external monitor for image editing. Overall, I find this to be one of the most user-friendly features on the machine. Speakers It's rubbish to be honest. But how much do you care? Battery Life I got about 10 hours on Linux under a light load and about 12 hours on Windows doing the same. While I think that's enough, it's a far cry from LG's 18-hour claim. In the machine I got, that slot is occupied by an 8GB Sodimm slot. Since the machine has 16GB of RAM, 8GB needs to be soldered onto the board. I don't know the maximum size of a SODIMM slot, but I'd be surprised if it were less than 32GB. Windows InstallWindows comes surprisingly malware-free on this machine and loads very quickly. I'm impressed with the Linux installation. Installing Ubuntu 20.04 was one of the easiest and most straightforward Linux installs I've ever done on a laptop. Kudos to LG for making it so easy. Conclusion If you are looking for a fast, powerful and upgradeable Ultrabook, this is the device for you. It's not a slot or a superstar, but it's more than enough for most tasks, and it's light enough that you probably won't notice it in your backpack.
