After discovering that I could pick the safe's lock by pushing the bolts back into the slots, I emailed the company. In a comprehensive, detailed answer, they told me how to solve the problem: 1) Press and hold the top button for 5 seconds. This will align the gears in the locking mechanism but will not unlock it. 2) Remove and re-insert elements to ensure solid electrical connections are made at all contact points. Delete any shifted cells and paste them again. Make sure none of them are installed in reverse order. 3) If the problem persists, replace the cells with new, fully charged ones. Energizer, Duracell and Ray-O-Vac elements are the same size and the right length. Cells from other manufacturers may not be the right size. It is important to note that rechargeable cells do not work. Customer service is excellent. I emailed on Sunday evening and received a response within an hour.
