Review on ☕ Technivorm Cup One Coffee Brewer, 10 oz, Shiny Silver by Craig Goodman

I've been using the Moccamaster full size coffee maker for nine years now and it's fantastic so my expectations for the Cup-One were high. To my disappointment, this coffee maker does not make good coffee. I ran about 15 tests using three different freshly ground beans and a wide range of grinder settings. Not a single cup was good enough to make me want to do it again. In tests, regular ground coffee was weak, while fine ground coffee had an unpleasant taste. I had to grind all the coffee in espresso mode to get a full-bodied cup, but that made it taste terrible. I suspect Technivorm decided to make the water temperature too high and the extraction time too slow to prepare just one serving. I measured the temperature at the spout at 105F. I find that brewing at this temperature for 4 minutes pulls the wrong aroma out of the coffee. I also compared the Cup-One to my Aero Press, using the same ground coffee and my regular 200F water. Aero Press was much better. The Aero-Press process I use has a total extraction time of 2 minutes instead of 4 minutes, but it makes the cup much richer and fuller than Cup-One. Cup-One also has the design flaw of water overflowing through the #1 paper filter if you try to use a finer grind. It can also overflow with normal grinding due to the filter not being centered exactly or being pressed too hard against the basket.
