This is an addendum to my original review below. The device is now on firmware version 1.15 and still keeps crashing. It doesn't seem to happen when Wi-Fi is off, so I turn Wi-Fi off until I need to download sound files. However, I would not recommend this device to other Olympus recorders. The software is faulty. From time to time the device freezes, requiring the battery to be removed. It starts very slowly and eats up the battery - half a battery in a clinic, my DS-5500 lasts for weeks. Wi-Fi is likely to drain your battery and increase download times. Wi-Fi is convenient but also unreliable, both for setup (Windows only) and practical use. The screen has nice colors but dims while dictating so it's not as easy to read as the old black and white LCD screens. I'm using firmware version 1.11, the latest at the time of review. Perhaps the problems can be solved by updating the firmware, but if you really don't need WLAN, I would go for the DS-5500.
