I've worn rubber on my Xbox 1 and PS4 controllers and rubbed my PS3 and 360 controllers really badly. I've tried a few different cases but never found a design I like that would be better than this one. The little ribs surrounding the surface do a good job of allowing you to easily pull in any direction. They improve the performance of the controller and add a layer of protection. In addition, the price is very reasonable.
