Review on Eco-Friendly Glass Food Storage Containers with Bamboo Lids - 4 Piece Value Set - Airtight Glass Meal Prep Containers or Food Storage Containers by Diane Lane

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Functional? Yes but.

I've had them for two months now and for the most part they are decent containers. However, they are not without disadvantages. If I could I would give them 3.5 stars but without being able to I felt I had no choice but to go with a lower rating. So here's a breakdown of the pros and cons I've seen with them. Unfortunately, the downsides come with the bamboo lids, which are the coolest feature of these devices. Pros: 1.) I'll just start by saying that the little one is just adorable. If you want your lunch to be discussed at the dinner table, then these containers will likely help. 2.) Glass is durable and should stand the test of time. Even the smallest containers take the heat of the oven just as well as their larger counterparts. 3.) Bamboo lids can be used as cutting boards. It's actually a pretty cool concept. Are you a cheese lover and want to take your favorite cheese to work for lunch but can't find a surface to cut your cheese on? Well these containers would be perfect for you. Now you can bring yourself some cheese and a cutting board. It also works as a small plate. Cons: 1.) They are NOT sealed. There is a simple piece of rubber on top of the bamboo lid to keep it in place. If you love tossing lettuce in your purse to take to work then these containers are not for you. If you have a lunch bag that you can keep flat and level, then you're good to go. You could probably put a strong rubber band on it, but I wouldn't expect you'd need to do that on containers that cost over $35.2.) The bamboo lid, which doubles as a cutting board and plate, is cool, but it also means that you must remember to take proper care of them. Unlike their plastic counterparts that you simply wash, dry and put away, you have to remember to oil them from time to time or they will dry out and crack. 3.) Because the bamboo lids are INSIDE the container and don't close the top and sides, they take up space where your food should be. As you can see from my photos, I was unable to use the topper when I made the second largest cupcake. The cake didn't fill the container any more than usual, but since the lid had to sit on the inside and not on top, it was useless. I had to cover it with foil. 4.) I'll confess that I haven't had this problem, but I can foresee that it will be a problem for some. Don't put anything with a strong smell in it. If you're one of those people who likes raw onions in a salad, I'd make sure they don't stay there for very long, as the porous nature of bamboo just absorbs the smell. Of course, this can also be a problem with plastic lids, but at least you have the option of soaking them in vinegar to remove the odor. 5.) And the last one about bamboo lids. If you're refrigerating something that tends to generate moisture, like celery or cucumbers, I would be concerned that the bamboo would absorb that moisture and warp over time. 6.) Due to the issues and potential problems with bamboo lids, I feel that the use of these containers is limited compared to other types of containers. Overall I really like these containers, although my cons outweigh my pros. If you are willing to take care of your bamboo lids like you would your cutting board, then they will last just as long as your cutting board. While I have concerns about some potential issues, there are possible workarounds. You can place a piece of plastic wrap over the bottom of the jar before putting on the bamboo lid, which will act as a barrier against any potential odors or moisture. Or maybe you're just not using them to store food that could cause these potential problems. Whether you are willing to accept that they have certain limitations is really up to you. Finally, I find the price a bit high in my opinion, given the problems with bamboo lids and the limitations they bring to the possible uses of containers. But as with anything, value in the eye of the beholder is just as important as beauty. Hope that helps!
