Review on ISOtunes Xtra Bluetooth Earplug Headphones: Ultimate Noise Reduction, 8-Hour Battery Life, Noise Cancelling Mic, OSHA Compliant (Black & Yellow) by Neil Bodell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not great, but they're decent.

Background: I was looking for some noise-cancelling in-ear headphones to replace a pair of full-size WorkTunes headphones. I wanted noise cancellation, Bluetooth, and a headphone style to use while mowing the grass. I have all sorts of options/types of hearing protection that my friends/family and I mostly use for target shooting. Pros: These headphones meet all three parameters I was looking for. I also like that they are small and light. They got along with each other easily. Medium level sound. They stay in my ears well even when I'm hopping on the lawn mower. They even came with several different sized earcups to fit your ear. They charge quickly and even have a light indicator for the status of this process. I love that the earbuds have magnets on the outer ends so they "snap" together when not in use and help hold them around your neck. Cons: OK, my only "serious" complaint about them is the connection quality. Yes, I could complain a bit about the sound quality if I wanted to, but that seems like a nitpick at this price point. Also, I only use them for mowing. I don't really care about the quality. No, they don't sound as good as my $200+ electronic noise-cancelling headphones that I use for photography. But should they, for a quarter the price and 1/20th the size? But the quality of communication raises questions. Maybe I got a bad device. I do not know. But they actually seem to get cut down quite often. It's only a split second at a time, but often enough that I regret not buying them. I was hoping it was just a problem with my phone. Unfortunately, it wasn't just my phone. There are many different bluetooth enabled devices in my family and EVERYONE has problems with these headphones. They are perfectly combined with each other, but the sound is intermittent. I was hoping it was just interference from a lawnmower or some other source, but I've tried it all over the house, in the middle of a field, in random spots, whatever. They just don't hold a strong bond it seems. IT doesn't matter how charged they are or what I'm doing. They just don't work as well as we'd like. So back to my old WorkTunes that were falling apart. :) Conclusion: I personally do NOT want to buy them. But I am. I had a couple of old WorkTunes that I just replaced because they were worn out and outdated. Also, I didn't want the headphones to cover my ears any more. Sweating while mowing with those in it got pretty uncomfortable. On paper, ISOtunes is spot on. Unfortunately, her poor performance hinders her a bit. If you're the type who doesn't bother with regular audio drops, you won't regret your purchase. They charge quickly. I have never seen them die on me during 3-4 hour work sessions in the yard. The sound quality is decent/average. If you know how to properly use noise-cancelling earplugs, you can get more than enough dB reduction to meet your needs in most applications. However, I will return to my WorkTunes. I have a hard time dealing with frequent audio glitches. This is very frustrating and distracting for me. I'll toss them in a drawer with my spare earmuffs if more people come by than usual. I just can't use them for their intended purpose like I was hoping.
