We threw them away after initial testing. We used a normal sharp kitchen knife (double knife?). The first phase of testing was very satisfactory, cutting the cot did not damage it and the cot appeared to offer good protection. As for the Twi phase, I wasn't ready to try my finger in a crib just yet, so I cut up a finger-sized potato and put it in the crib. While the knife didn't cut through the bed (as before), the knife was still able to cut through the potato "finger". The incision is clean, through. Seeing this I didn't move on to the third phase of testing and wouldn't assume the crib could really protect my finger. At the end of the test, this product received an absolute rejection. Be careful when considering this.
