I bought this swim dress to actually swim in and play in the water with my daughter, not just to feel comfortable walking around a pool. First of all, I am apple-shaped and have a long rise, but have a smaller bust than would be expected of a woman my size. Read: hard to fit. I bought swimwear in the distant past that had a built-in soft cup bra. This suit has removable modesty pads but no underwire support, so at first I felt a bit flat. The pads can be adjusted where you want them, but it took me a minute to figure out how to do that because the side slits are small. I think because this suit is a loose-fitting dress, you can get away with less support and still feel covered up. The wide straps make it possible to wear an actual bra underneath if you need more support than I do. Because I am smaller-busted but large-waisted, I bought the suit to fit my middle and altered the bustline. I did this by carefully removing the long, purely decorative tie in the front and hand-sewing it to fill in the neck a bit and crossed over the remaining ends like a front-tie halter top, which turned out super cute! I also added a vertical gather in the center so the U-neck became a fitted sweetheart neckline which now leaves no gap in front when I bend over. (Note to the manufacturer: This would be a great spot for an internal drawstring to customize fit.) The suit totally covers my back rolls and comes up high enough under my arms, and as a dress with a handkerchief hemline, it covers me to my knees! It's its own cover-up, which is awesome. I thought all that fabric might get in my way while swimming, because it does tend to float around in the water like the wings of a bat. But the skirt is attached to boy-short bottoms, and it didn't bother me at all. (No wedgies, yay!) As for the tummy-slimming panel, honestly I didn't really notice that it made any difference. The suit is a loose-fitting dress, so it doesn't hug you visually. The only drawback is when you get out of the water, all that extra fabric is hard to squeeze out and it does drip a lot for quite awhile. (My advice: bring your own very large beach towel, don't count on the skimpy little hotel things.) Not easy to hand wash this suit in a hotel sink, either, and don't expect it to be totally dry by morning. I did wash it in salt water at home as directed before wearing, and it's less of a hassle in your own home. But I bought this to feel good in public in a swimsuit, not so it would look good in a laundry room, and it does deliver on that score! I haven't felt this pretty in YEARS!
