As good as a regular massage (almost)
I got this as a gift for my boyfriend. He's on his feet all day at work and carries the tension in his shoulders. I thought I'd do this to try and ease his tension/pain and I'm glad I did! He uses it almost every night. It hurts at first and can be really painful when you're very tense (but in this case it's just a regular massage - so no big deal, I expected that). He says it works (almost) as well as a human massage! The heat is there - many reviews said it doesn't get hot, but it does get hot, just not to the point of burning you and takes a while to heat up. This is nice because you can adjust the pressure you add and still be able to use your hands thanks to the finger holes! Good product!
