This device gives you over 4 hours of stereo (or double the mono) "HQ" recording in Windows Media format and allows you to transfer files by dragging and Drop Windows without the need to install and use the shockingly primitive software used by SONY and others for their recorders. I like it. HQ sound is great for recording voice notes or classroom lectures. Tends to be heavy at high frequencies. I've been using mine fairly heavily for about 8 months and it's becoming very unreliable - the switches (which are very annoyingly small and almost always require you to look at them to see what you're doing) seem to be dying. It is definitely in need of renovation. I would happily pay twice as much if I could assume that the device would work perfectly for 4 or 5 years. I recommend purchasing an extended warranty. Yes, the battery cover will fall off. Two caveats: 1. while technically it could be a USB 2.0 device, the transfer is very slow and 2. when I plug it into a powered USB hub, the transfer happens at the push of a button with lots of complete failures - total unacceptable. But overall I like it.
