I am writing this review as my 8 month old son is approaching the 2 hour sleep mark. Since birth she has been up more than 30-40 minutes on each of her naps and wakes up like clockwork every 2 hours at night. Pumping milk, putting her to bed and trying to get her to sleep in longer (naps) and stay up all night, I have hardly slept for a total of 4 hours since my baby was born. We've tried everything, including white noise, sleep training (controlled crying, getting up/down, etc.); Swaddle, sleeping bag, aromatherapy, formula, grip water, whatever you want, we've tried. I stumbled upon this mattress topper by accident while buying a crib and mattress (same brand as this mattress topper) for a baby to sleep at Grandma's. That first night she slept for 6 hours - in fact I woke up after 2am and didn't understand why she wasn't screaming and tossing and turning as usual. This is the first time I have slept more than 4 hours since she was born, the first night we used this topper. The next day she took her first nap on the pad and didn't wake up until 2 hours later - I was so confused I kept checking the baby monitor to make sure she was breathing. I was actually able to get things done around the house and had my first "down time" in 8 months. This is my first review of the many baby things I've bought from Revain since my baby was born, because now I really have time for when baby finally sleeps in with this topper. It's only been 2 days since we received this product and it was worth every penny. I agree with other users that it would be best to use this when the child is able to roll over and/or sit up on their own due to the risk of SIDS. When I received this product there was a slight chemical smell, but we put the topper on an open window and the smell was gone after a few hours. I didn't like the waterproof sheet that came with the mattress topper so I used another waterproof mattress topper (Tencel brand) and a baby sheet over it. The mattress of this company is great too! Again, it is softer than traditional (hard) crib mattresses so I would not be comfortable with this mattress unless the child has learned to roll over and/or sit up unaided. But I think a mattress topper would work just as well on top of a traditional crib mattress.
