These were LEDs to replace the original 4W bulbs projected through the headlight reflector. My Beetle comes from Europe and was built for the European market. Turning on the parking lights gives you a red light at the back and a bright "side marker light" in the same spot as the headlights, just not as bright. With LEDs, on the other hand, the light is bright enough to pass as low beam. When you turn on the headlights, it stays on. LEDs use less power than the old bulbs, but the new replacement bulbs are almost as bright as low beam LEDs. They're great for nighttime city driving and don't blind oncoming drivers. They are not like the earlier bulbs, which sit in front of the sealed carriers, but in the headlamp housing. The only problem with these LED replacement parts, aside from the price, was that one of the LEDs failed after just three weeks. I will not buy these again. It seemed like a great buy, but it turns out not all was so good.
