Ideal for experimentation or cakes for two

I really like this pan. There are some downsides. Obviously it's not waterproof as the bottom is removable. This isn't usually a problem for pies since the bottom crust usually contains liquid, but it's not intended for fluffy desserts like apple chips. I've even found that fat or oil sizzles from the bottom and falls into the oven, so I usually put something on a shelf under the oven to catch drips, just in case. Also note that you should choose ONE of the bases that came with the pan and keep the other in the cupboard. You don't just glue a split bottom over a flat bottom. I've seen reviews complaining about raw bottom crusts, but I believe this is user error and not a design flaw. Either they're not cooking their pies properly, or they've left both bottoms in the pan (or maybe put them straight onto a drip pan instead of placing the pan on a shelf below like I did, which allows for more airflow around the pan). pan.) If this is a serious concern for you, I recommend blind baking the bottom crusts before filling, but I haven't noticed any noticeable difference between my bottom crusts in this pan and other cake pans when making the same recipes. A notice. My regular 9 inch cake ring doesn't go well with this pan and I have to use a homemade D shaped piece of foil to protect the edges which is a little annoying but what can you do, right? It's a D-shaped cake! Tops - Easy to clean, simple to use and allows you to prepare smaller batches of homemade cakes. There are only two of us in our family and my husband complains when I make too much dessert. he always watches his weight. In such a pan I cook several cakes at once and freeze them. When I'm done I take it out, baste half the pan over it and put the frozen cake in to bake. Perfect 4 portions of fresh homemade cakes on request! I've never used a flat bottom before, but the removable bottom makes it incredibly easy and clean to remove the cake from the pan (after it's been frozen or baked). do not dig and form crumbs or lose pieces of crust. It would be great to cook multiple flavors of cakes for a large family. Definitely worth a try for bakers, cake lovers and small households.
