This fleece beanie, which we call the Orbit for convenience, is a stylish and fun accessory for young children. The prickly pear color is bold and eye-catching, and the pompom on top adds a touch of whimsicality. The fit is snug and secure, with a soft and elastic band that keeps the hat in place without feeling too tight. However, when it comes to real heat, Orbit falls a bit behind. The fleece material, while soft and cozy, isn't thick enough to keep a child's head really warm in cold weather. We found that on particularly cold days we had to wear another beanie under the Orbit to ensure adequate insulation. Overall, the Orbit is a cute and functional hat for milder winters or early fall/late spring trips. However, if you live in an area with consistently cold temperatures, you'll need to look elsewhere for a hat that provides more reliable warmth. We give the Obermeyer Orbit fleece hat 3 out of 5 stars.
