Review on Dell UltraSharp U2711: 27 Inch Widescreen Monitor with High Resolution, Anti-Glare Display by Seth Ledbetter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor, suits me

It took me LOONNNG time to get the monitor working the way I wanted it to. 1. 2 issues that are LOTS talked about with this monitor: a) Don't worry about the dual DVI cable working as Dell ships a working DVI cable with new monitors. And you REALLY need this cable. A normal DVI cable is not shown. b) Make sure this is the LATEST version number. old twists. were buggy and will have many of the problems that other people mention. I believe mine was ver. 08th Build August 2011 Before I write any further, I would also like to say that I am an avid gamer. I play first person shooters, RPGs and strategy games so a great monitor is a must for me. Before that I had a GREAT monitor but I wanted something bigger and better and thought I could find it. I bought several monitors and TVs and had to send them back because they didn't fit. Keep in mind that you won't find anything better than a good 24-inch monitor with a resolution of 1900 x 1200 or better. Forget it. monitor, the higher the resolution should be. So if you have a 27 inch monitor you can run "HD", but nowadays any monitor can do that. If you try to play games with high details on this monitor, you will lose a lot of time. And this monitor does that well. It's a 27-inch monitor with a high enough resolution for its size to get the full value of those intense graphics. Any 27-inch monitor with a lower resolution is only suitable for surfing the Internet, using the office and watching movies. If that's all you do, save a lot of money and buy a monitor at half the price of this one. For me, this is not my dream monitor. I still want MORE flashy and MORE "WOW" but like I said I'm an avid gamer and I LOVE the graphics. I just don't think the next technological level has been reached yet. I think if Dell builds an LED monitor with these monitor resolutions, it'll be damn close, but it's not quite there yet. Anti-glare: I have a window on my back so I'm grateful for that. NO reflection AT ALL! Problem 1) HARD TO CLEAN! You'll have a heck of a lot of time to remove stains. I don't notice blemishes while playing, but it annoys me when I see them. Problem 2) You will see some gray (which looks like pixelation) on white, but it's really easy to forget. Because an anti-glare screen is like a hard piece of plastic with a very thin, rough surface. Games: Works great. I was a bit nervous going from 5ms to 6ms but I tested the monitor at 2ms and saw NO DIFFERENCE. The highly graphic first-person shooters played smoothly and just as well as my old turn-based games. I wouldn't worry about MS speed, but don't FORGET to get the latest monitor. Don't be fooled by some of these companies who are still trying to get rid of "brand new" monitors but OLD revisions with problems. Price: Well, I had to put up with it. I wanted a great 27" and had to pay for it. I sold my other monitor for 250.00 and bought this one on Black Friday for 750.00. No tax and included shipping. it uses power. Monitor features are great, height and Swivel adjustment: check Does it support HDMI?yes (although DVI is better for CG) So bottom line YES this is the BEST 27" monitor you can get from Dell yet will not be an LED monitor or any other version of THIS monitor come out, increased the resolution or colors etc. I was going to wait for something like that but on Black Friday I decided to buy this one. If something better comes out I'll sell this one and take it. ;)
