Review on NewSoul Portable Monitor MDS-173A01 - Enhanced HD, Flicker-Free, Frameless, Ultrawide Display: 1920X1080, 60Hz by Kris Ragusa

I originally bought the Asus XG17AHP and went for the highest quality 17 inch portable monitor at the highest price. ASUS charges $600+tax for their monitor, but all you get is their poor quality control. Despite being slim, light and thin, and coming with the perfect stand, the monitor also had a dead pixel in the center and a ton of blowout in the top left corner. I sent it back immediately. The box it came in was also stuffed and packaged very oddly. I wasn't sure which monitor to choose as all the alternatives are nameless brands like the ones I'm looking at right now. I ended up going with this one because it had good reviews and no reported issues like dead pixels. The monitor is amazing! Despite being slightly heavier and thicker than the Asus, it feels very solid and looks beautiful. It doesn't have any lame branding or incomprehensible logos at all - it's just a metallic black frame with an amazing screen. The screen is bright enough (about 75% of my 2020 13-inch MBP) and its colors are accurate. The monitor connects to my MBP/PC with a single USB-C cable with no power and signal issues. I also like that the ports are on the right for my setup (compared to Asus' left). It was packaged neatly in a box almost identical to the one you get with Apple products. The display controls are very easy to use and very intuitive - just a scroll button and a back button. Asus has 6 (!) separate buttons, which makes navigating and choosing the right setting very confusing. However, my favorite feature is probably that the monitor doesn't turn itself off! You can disable auto-off through settings and the monitor will go to sleep and wake up when your computer does. Asus and other monitors turn off independently of your system, forcing you to manually turn on the monitor every time you return to your desktop after a pause. In summary, this is the best 17 inch portable monitor I could find and I would highly recommend it, especially at this amazing price.
