Review on 13-Inch Apple MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD Storage in Space Gray - Previous Model by Adam Dziarnowski ᠌
Im not particularly happy, but basically everything is fine.
The Macbook Pro 15 Late 2022 was replaced by this one, and I upgraded. First and foremost, I required mobility, minimalism, and independence. The Macbook Pro 13 with Touchbar has the poorest battery life of any model in the current lineup, which came as a complete shock to me. Sometimes even four hours isn't enough under severe load, and as little as two or three Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or Virtual Private Network (VNC) sessions might drain the battery in as little as two or three hours. Only Power Delivery-enabled power banks are saved. Including only 8GB of RAM in the highest-end model without allowing for expansion to at least 16GB is a waste. It's been 13 or 14 years since Macbooks were last updated, and in that time, the quality has steadily declined. You really don't want to look at Windows 10 on a laptop, and the trouble is that sometimes even other manufacturers are performing worse.
- The screen is gorgeous, and after using a Macbook Pro 15 Late 2022, you'll notice a marked improvement in terms of brightness and color accuracy. The chassis and hinge are both metal, and the touchpad is so large that it effectively eliminates the need for a mouse. Read speeds of around 3000 Mb/s and write speeds of 1800 Mb/s across four universal Thunderbolt 3 ports. Charging time is shorter than on my old Macbook Pro 15
- Poor efficiency. You'll have to make do with a 2-core Intel Core i5 and 8Gb RAM (the RAM standard in 2022 is still LPDDR3) since Apple decided not to bring in any custom variants. The battery is tiny and dead. Since the touchbar serves little practical purpose, the Escape key has been relocated to it. The Butterfly 2 keyboard is a total dud; it has the clacking sound of mechanical keys but no tactile feedback and very little key travel. My hands start to pain after 2 to 3 hours of typing. Those scissors really did the job. The iPhone's Wi-Fi connection drops out of the modem and Windows' screen brightness can be adjusted on the fly, both of which are incompatible with Bootcamp. Even after reinstalling Windows and the drivers, the issues persisted.
