The foam inside is soft and easy to remove for cleaning. I bought two of these for my pup. She is deaf and came at 6 months completely untrained to me. She also suffers from neurological problems. People before me tried to break into her house with pillows (thank god they couldn't!) and she wouldn't take them outside. They told me they be trained but she was i pissed in my drawer at first so i bought two of these so we could clean one while we cleaned the other, put them down and then took the cover off to let them dry i love the fact that the pee escapes when she pees on top and underneath at the bottom so she doesn't sit in her mess (she rarely has an accident now but when she does she doesn't get stuck in it) because they're water resistant! I think, Hand wash works best? I wash them off with hot water in the shower or outside depending on how dirty they are.
