Review on ๐ŸŽค Shure SM-57 Dynamic Cardioid Instrument Microphone by Jhun Skaggs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing microphone for voice paired with A81WS foam!

nothing to say. With my settings it has a VERY rich sound! Very close to the Shure SM7B to be honest, but the foam I'm using probably contributes more as it "moves" the pod to the same relative position under the foam as the 7B does. Their capsules are very similar, but unless you're in a professional studio, when you're using the mic in bandwidth-constrained environments like streaming, discord, or uploading to YouTube, the difference isn't big enough. If you have an average male voice, try my settings! Adjust if you have different hardware/software. This mic has a fairly flat frequency response so it's very easy to calibrate! **Hardware Setup ----- This mic sits on an A81WS foam shock mount (not designed for use with the SM57 but will do with a little work!) Fethead preamp (CloudLifter might work too) Yamaha MG10XU mixer with HPF 80 incl Hz, gain at 9 o'clock, compressor off (hardware compressor is not good for noise isolation. Much better to do it in software after noise reduction is already applied), HIGH EQ 10kHz set at 1 hour, MID EQ 2.5kHz set at 12 o'clock (default), LOW EQ 100Hz set at 11 o'clock and Level set at 3 o'clock (default where the arrow is) Intersect the EQ settings the bass slightly from the 100 Hz range and also emphasize the presence of vocals in the 10 kHz range. **Software Setup-----DAW:Keykwok; set to monitor via virtual audio cable (this allows me to do all the extra post adjustments and output as a microphone in realtime as a separate device, so the full EQ mic works on all windows). VST in order (effects are applied from top to bottom) *** Brusfri Trial: The best VST with noise reduction! Just keep everything still and hold the ear button for 10 seconds. Unlike almost every other noise canceling VST, this one actually preserves the sound quality! I went through the trial version but it still works as it should. *** Rough Rider: Very good free compressor. I use this in addition to a hardware compressor as it compresses everything after it goes through the mail.
