Review on La Almona - 1 Gallon Unscented Pure Castile Liquid Soap by Patrice Lippmann

Great on the skin but hardly lathers

I was excited to try this product but I confess the main reason I bought it was the affordability. I usually buy Dr. Bronner's, which is more expensive. I was disappointed with this product. I understand both brands are oil based, but this particular oil has quite a bit of oil in it. Using it as a body soap and hand wash isn't too bad, especially as the oil helps keep my skin from drying out afterwards. However, it takes a lot of soap to lather and has a runny consistency (Dr. Bronner's is thicker and lathers well with just a few drops). The bottle advertises that the soap is versatile, meaning you can use it as a shampoo, dishwashing liquid, clothes detergent and all-purpose household cleaner. I used it as dish soap and was very disappointed. Again, it hardly foams (unless you use a lot at once) and leaves a film on dishes that dries out pretty quickly if you don't rinse it off right away. I haven't tried it as a detergent yet because I'm afraid it will leave a film on my clothes. On the plus side, it's affordable, contains all natural ingredients, moisturizes the skin, and doesn't smell like advertised. It's not a bad buy, but because I have to use so much just to lather it up, it's probably theoretically more expensive than just Dr. Buy Bronner if you will be buying it regularly.
