I bought this table to use as a tv stand but it turned out so great that I use it as a side table in my office. To fold this table, you need to turn it upside down and pull the legs out of the slots at the top. You also do this when adjusting the height. I like being able to adjust the height and fold it this way as I have found my child has fewer buttons/loops/switches to accidentally play with. The base fits snugly into each groove and locks securely into place, so I'm confident the table won't collapse on its own. There's not really a lot of legroom between the base feet, but your feet will fit. I do not think it's bad. Sturdy plastic tabletop with bevelled edges. Overall, this is a very functional desk that does its job well.
