Our cats love this scratching post

Our 3 adult cats love this scratching post. Only 1 of them liked our old scratching post (which was just a carpeted sisal tree) but all 3 liked this one. I think they like it more because of the toy functions, but first I will describe the basic scratch functions. It comes with 3 support sections (2 sisal and 1 carpet). You can build it with just 1 or 2 or all 3 sections. We assemble it with 2 at a time and put the 3rd one in the storage/closet. Their favorite thing to do is scratch the texture of the carpet. It started falling apart after about a month but this made it even more fun for them as they like the more scruffy textured look and enjoy ripping off pieces from time to time. It's been 6 months and there's still some life left in the carpet department. I have them rip out the carpet and then rip open the cardboard tube. Once it's destroyed in a few months I will be replacing it with the spare sisal section it came with. And when that rips off, you can swap out the top sisal tube and bottom sisal tube (which don't scratch them as much because they're close to the ground) and then you can use them for a few more months. Overall I think it will be another year (18 months total) or possibly longer in our three cat house. They love to play with a small ball of down on an elastic rope. You will hit it or hold on to it with pliers and pull it back and then let go and watch it bounce and sway. They still do it from time to time after 6 months (it's not outdated yet). They love watching the balls roll down the 2 lanes in the base. As others have pointed out, the lanes are too small for adult cats to fit their paws in (would be a design improvement if they were larger), so I use my finger or a stick to slide balls across the to throw a track. I love seeing that. It makes it more interactive because I have to play with them. Because the cats scrape the fibers off the post right above the tracks, I sometimes have to turn the whole thing upside down and knock or vacuum up the debris from the tracks. The base is quite small, which is pleasant in this regard. It doesn't take up much space on the floor. It also makes him less stable than some and our cats knock him over from time to time. It's not that difficult to quickly bring it into a vertical position. We tuck a corner of the base under the piece of furniture so that it doesn't fall off too often (only when pushed out from under the furniture). Overall, this product is a huge hit and represents excellent value for money. Would definitely buy again when our current one wears out.
