When I first got my iPad, I had trouble typing with my fingers. I've always typed quickly, and the method of finding and pasting with my fingers gave me trouble. I ordered a Targus stylus and found that I could type much faster without hitting the wrong keys, and selecting items on the iPad was much more accurate. I use the app. This allows me to control my iMac remotely from an iPad, and the icons and buttons are too small to tap with your finger unless you zoom in first. With a stylus, I can usually select a button, specific word, or other option without zooming in, which speeds up my work. Writing notes with a pen is also much easier than writing with your finger. Write more naturally, like with a pen. On the other hand, you must remember that you must have a pen with you. I usually carry my iPad in a small pouch with a pocket, so I just slip the stylus in my pocket and you're done. Targus Stylus isn't very expensive, so it's worth a try. Once you get used to it you will love it.
