I ordered 7 for my son because it's his normal size. Sometimes the 7 is slightly more and the 6 is slightly less, depending on the product/brand. These shorts were a bit baggy in the waist (doesn't matter because they have drawstrings) but quite long. My son is not a little boy and doesn't usually have this problem. I've ordered 6 which haven't arrived yet but I expect to keep them. This is a good quality pair of shorts. Love the zippered pockets (handy for kids who will find "treasures" everywhere but also run, roll, jump etc lol) and accents where the drawstring comes out. Overall I recommend these shorts, I would just say go down a size;
