I wanted a wooden trash can for our office that would be big enough to hold whole sheets of paper without clumping them up. This basket is perfect for our use, but I'm not sure how good it is for laundry. The bottom is a thin piece of wood - no more than 1/4 inch thick. The basket keeps its shape with a thin piece of wire bent into a square shape - if this wire is bent your basket may no longer fit. Also, the sides of the basket are made from thin bamboo slats, and if you ever break one or more (because you've stuffed too much in or gotten into a high-traffic area), it won't be easy to fix. .I don't use any cloth liner at all but use tall garbage bags that we can easily pick up and carry to the bin. I also don't use a lid just to cover up my files or to. In conclusion I think there are many ways to use this basket creatively, but probably not in harsh conditions or in a way that can be hit. It's probably best to set it up in a safe place and lift or remove objects from it. (with insert or garbage bags).
