I was hesitant to buy this lamp - even though the price was great and it looked really versatile when other reviewers said it was "very hot" --- I had my doubts . Noticing that it had a plastic tip - presumably for grabs - I decided to take a chance and just be careful (it couldn't get any hotter than a standard incandescent bulb, which after decades of use eventually blew and which I had to replace; you always had to be careful when adjusting the angle as the "lampshade" was metal and got hot - and heated up under the lamp). I really thought it would be great to be able to change the intensity as I spend a lot of time taking pictures on my computer and this feature seemed perfect. Well, let me report: The reviewer who said it got really hot must have gotten a bad device. I left it on for a few hours yesterday to test it out and I was still able to hold the "light wand" part with no discomfort; although it makes sense to use the tip at the end for adjustment so as not to damage the "bulb". I like the ability to adjust the intensity; small size, "coolness" of light - and a glowing power button; so important in the dark! I also tried to see if it would tip over easily as other reviewers have mentioned. Not that I saw any point in stretching my arm out - but in all comfortable positions I tried it was very stable; I'm not sure what the other reviewers were trying to achieve. Bottom line: I never thought I would give up my lightbulbs, but this lightbulb has made me reconsider. I'm thinking of a few more places this lamp will come in handy!
