I'm a music teacher and I create instructional videos for online classes. My Neumann KM184 mics are great for instruments, but they pick up too much crackle and rumble, even with a pop filter. I needed a vocal mic and settled on the Yeti XI, prefer the darkened look of the model but bought the World of Warcraft version on a generous Lightning deal. What is the difference between Yeti X and Yeti X World of Warcraft microphones? Aside from the looks - the gray dotted finish, the bright gold trim, the World of Warcraft logo and wording - both mics are the same. On the software side, there is a special version of the Blue Voice Effects application for Yeti X World of Warcraft users (not available for Mac OS). Yeti X's performance stunned me! The sound quality is really great for voice acting: the microphone reproduction is perfectly optimized for the human voice. From 4" to 12" the timbre was smooth, full and sweet. Plus, the large built-in grill saved me from panting! I mainly use the cardioid polar pattern and the off-axis rejection is excellent. The stereo system is more forgiving of placement and sounds great for guitar and ukulele. The exterior is made of durable metal and looks well made. The keys are soft but thin. Mounted on a desktop stand, Yeti X looks good, but it's a real desktop pig. It has a standard 5/8" mic thread on the bottom, so I removed the table stand and mounted the Yeti X on the Manfrotto Magic's arm. . So I can set the optimal position for optimal sound and lean to the side when not in use. Selected Yeti X in the soundbar or audio app settings and pressed record. I immediately started using it for crystal clear voiceovers with Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. Yeti levels are easy to control with an 11-segment LED meter. The front button, the intelligent multi-function button, has three functions: microphone boost, headphone boost and microphone-headphone balance. I use for voice acting. I like the stereo template for quick music sessions. tware are all available for download. Blue Sherpa duplicates the functionality of the physical controls: gain, detection pattern, etc. If you're live streaming and need to make adjustments, do it in the software to avoid microphone bumps. Whether you want to change the character of your voice - sound like a radio disc jockey - or apply EQ, compression, noise reduction, gate, de-esser or limiter - the Blue VO!CE app can help. The Blue VO!CE effects worked properly after loading. However, on the Mac it's buggy - lots of spinning beach balls - and I was dying to remove it. No waste as the features are just the bare minimum compared to a basic DAW app like GarageBand. World of Warcraft presets were the main advertised feature for this mic, and yet they are not available for Mac OS. I don't care β I don't want to sound like a gnome or demon β but if you're a Mac user and paid extra for a Yeti X World of Warcraft model for these presets, you're not going to be happy. Luckily, the free GarageBand and iMovie apps that come with your Mac are great for editing and creating effects. If you create software tutorials, Yeti X works well with Quicktime to add voiceovers to screen videos. Yeti X is a great mic for podcasting, voiceovers, random music recording, zooming and streaming from your computer. If you have a Mac, don't worry about Yeti X World of Warcraft unless it's on sale. Purchase the standard Yet X instead. The same product but without the in-game logos and demon presets.
