Review on Metallic Grey Rock Jaw V2 Alfa Genus Headphones - Enhanced for SEO by Whitney Richardson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great sound but poor finish

Sound wise I would give the Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 a full 5 stars. However, a few implementation issues bother me enough to look for another alternative. Pros: 1) Sounded very good for headphones in this price range. Beats everything I've had before from the same priced Sennheiser to the more expensive Etymotic etc. My music (vocal jazz, pop, light rock etc) sounds very alive, especially with the high pass filter. 2) Interchangeable sound filters allow you to customize the sound. 3) Very strong, indestructible aluminum body construction. Cons: 1) The cable is so rubbery/chunky that it's literally impossible to slip nicely out of your ears and into your phone/mp3 player in your pocket. It should twist and squirm in the air as it dangles and moves away from your body. 2) The cable is (again) so heavy that it constantly pulls on the earbud when standing or walking. Using a cable clip solves this problem, but only works when I'm wearing a jacket in cold weather. Using the cable clamp with only a t-shirt is inconvenient. 3) The replaceable sound filter has a screw-like thread on the outside and is screwed into the receiver housing. The rubber ear pad has a hole in the middle that fits snugly around the sound filter. The problem is that a slight twist to place the eartip in the ear will eventually unscrew the acoustic filter from the earbud and the acoustic filter/eartip assembly will either get stuck in the ear canal or be lost. This has happened to me twice, the first time with the earbud in my ears (fortunately the earbud didn't fit fully into my ear canal and I was able to get it out) and the second time it fell off. until I wear it and now I've lost a sound filter and a small earbud. 4) Now I have a different filter and have switched to a larger earbud that doesn't fit. I emailed Rock Jaw (seller) for a replacement (at my expense) but they never responded to me. I say if you're looking for headphones that are primarily for sitting comfortably at home or in the office, this might work for you. But if you use these headphones on the go or need to walk or walk a lot, I will seriously consider the points listed above before purchasing.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Not as good as it says it is
