Working in the music industry (Jazz scene), I've gone through a lot of various music players and other items, but iriver (Apple's main competitor) has always been my go-to. The high cost deterred most buyers. I recently bought this player and it is a SHIPSHIP! It's like spending your entire life behind the wheel of a Nissan and declaring, "My swallow is the best in the world!" before finally upgrading to an S-class Mercedes and letting yourself completely forget about the past. THIS MATTERS A LOT! It's almost too crucial! The headphones are the one item I can't comment on because I didn't even use them. I opted for Apple's in-ear headphones because I'm used to them and have no idea what else might be better. The audio is fantastic. The player is also audible and undistorted when used with high-impedance headphones. I'm very serious about my music! This is not something you want to hear when strolling or driving. Simply said, pay close attention to the finer points! As a result, I have never used a synheiser. He artificially enhances the sound (This is terrible!) At first, I assumed Apple would follow suit, but alas! Nothing is being hidden! I have perfect hearing and never crank up the volume on my iPod (It hurts when you max it out) The engineers performed a fantastic job, and there is room to adjust the equalization.
