I use HALO as a crunchy addition to homemade plant-based (vegan) meals for my dogs. That's the perfect compliment. My dogs love it. I started cooking for them after one of them, the grey-black in the photo, became seriously ill with pancreatitis which led to her being diagnosed with diabetes. After the change in diet, they had no health problems. The black dog weighed just 12 pounds following illness and discharge from the hospital, having lost 3-4 pounds in about a week. She gained most of her weight on her plant-based diet, including the HALO topper. It took 16 months but now she looks good. I wish I didn't have to inject her with insulin every 12 hours, but this is our new reality. I dream that I can cure her and stop insulin. She has improved so much. My vegan dog food recipe works for me. I'll share it here and I know I'll get some criticism but c'mon I've seen this heal my dog. Both do it much better than a high-quality dried lamb diet. 1 lb package Frozen Organic Kale (thawed) 1 lb package Frozen Organic Green Beans (thawed) chopped and frozen. Thaw before use) 5 tbsp. l. At mealtimes, I mix 1/2 cup veggie sauce mix with 1 1/2 cup Butler Foods hydrated soy curls (fake chicken) and add 1/3 cup soaked sprouted barley (I soak a batch of barley overnight and a day or several days (change the water. When it gets softer I refrigerate it to use for feeding. Batch processing makes it easy. I just have to think ahead.) To this I add vitamins, minerals and a probiotic from Dr. Dobias Healing Solutions (I also use his herbal flea shampoo and bedding spray.) I divided the mixed 2 cups of veggie sauce, soy curls and vitamins between two dogs I used 1/2 cup of HALO Garden of Vegan for the Divided Topper.(Split 1/4 cup for first feeding, another 1/4 for second feeding.) I give my dogs half of the serving before the insulin shot and the other half after.. Like a treat - and it helps me remember to remember that I took an insulin shot. I don't use chemicals on my dogs. I hate giving them vaccines as it was probably a combination of a steroid shot, an overly rich diet of dried lamb dog food, flea medication and vaccines that contributed to my dog getting sick. I know my recipe sounds crazy and needs a lot of work. This is not entirely correct. It's a habit I've formed and the rewards of having a good time are priceless.
