Takes snorkeling to the next level

First impression: β€’ Well packaged, the dome is well protected in the box β€’ A soft pouch protects the dome from scuffs and scratches when not in use used β€’ The included screwdriver to tighten the clasp is itself a nice touch and a quality item. Usage: Includes a waterproof case for the Hero 5, 6 and 7 models. Your GoPro is contained within this case which is then attached to the dome itself and held in place with a bracket secured with two thumbscrews. While the seal between the housing and dome appears to be very watertight, I believe the included waterproof GoPro housing should be permanently attached to the dome to prevent water from entering the dome itself. So far, after a few snorkeling trips, everything is absolutely waterproof and safe. I do find that the thumbscrews are a bit small and can be a bit uncomfortable for someone with thumbs, but once everything is adjusted they hold up well and don't need to be adjusted until you're done shooting. The dome attaches to the handles. Using a tripod mount. Once this is tightened everything seems solid. It is necessary to use the supplied screwdriver to tighten the mount to prevent unwanted movement when the dome is pushed through the water while swimming. It is important that the camera is set up and ready to use before putting it in the case, as touchscreen operation is not possible with the camera in the case. The on/off/mode button and record button can be used as there are waterproof buttons on the case for these controls. The dome is positively buoyant, ensuring your expensive rig won't sink to the bottom when you let go. Of course you could dive with such a setup, but the real benefit is that the dome is half submerged, allowing for a split field of view: half the field of view is underwater and half is out of the water. This enables very creative video recordings. I would like a measurement line on the back of the case to show the centerline of the field of view more clearly and I will add it with white tape. It is extremely important to rinse the dome thoroughly with clean water after use, being careful not to scratch the surface of the dome. After use, I put mine in the sink and let it sit in fresh water for about five minutes before carefully rinsing off any salt spray buildup on the dome. I have found that a gentle shake with your fingers under the running water removes the salt spray on its own - no need to use chemicals. Overall I am very happy with the Shoot DomePort for GoPro and would definitely recommend it. Pros: β€’ Positive buoyancy – won't sink when you let go β€’ Built-in lens hood eliminates glare β€’ Sturdy construction with quality materials β€’ Dual-handle design for more precise control Cons: β€’ The GoPro's waterproof housing is not permanently bonded to the dome; Water can potentially seep into the dome β€’ The touchscreen does not work when the GoPro is in the case β€’ There is no waterline marking on the back of the case β€’ The thumbscrews that hold the case to the dome are small and don't come off easily put on you have big fingers
