Review on Abatron WoodEpox: The Ultimate Epoxy Replacement Compound for Wood Restoration by Daniel Aboubakar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This seems to work in my pressure treated wood application.

I was restoring a deck and wanted to fill a large gap in the pressure treated 4x4 rack used in the build. I did some research online and decided to give WoodEpox a try. When I first received the 2 liter kit I was shocked at how light it was and had serious doubts about filling and reinforcing liter voids in wood and structural integrity. Mixing: I determined the amount of hardener and epoxy. Use with scales and weighing material. When mixing, I first tried placing it in a ziplock gallon bag and kneading until smooth, but ended up using my rubber-gloved hands to finish the mixing process. Anti-rot approx. 2 weeks before epoxy application. The cavity was bordered on 2 sides with white wood to prevent the epoxy from falling out and when it was filled another piece of wood was used to close the 3rd side of the cavity. When filling in the gap, I made sure it was aimed in the corners to completely fill in the hard-to-fill areas. When I applied the epoxy it acted like it wouldn't stick to the wood, another problem. I left it in 80 degree heat for 3 days. Overall Impression: When trying to remove the white wood it didn't come loose, the epoxy bonded so well I actually had to work hard to peel the wood off and bits were left behind. Wood in epoxy that I had to plan by hand (can still be seen in the photo). I would recommend using some plastic between the wood and the epoxy to make it easier to separate any material that might touch it. And in the end it seemed to stick well to pressure treated wood too. I also had some epoxy and created a 2x2 cube out of the material and let it dry. I tried drilling and screwing it in and it seemed very structural, especially considering the weight of the material. Overall I'm happy with this product and will use it again, I gave it 4 stars because it's quite expensive.
