No worse than the old ones.
The old ones were dense, spongy, durable little footballs with some weight. It's a little harder and easier. You can't get it past a regular soccer ball like the old ones because it's too light. My son is 5 years old and he is learning to fish, it will hurt if it hits you in the face. Just not like 10-15 years ago.
