UPDATED APRIL 2021 . When I connect this adapter + 5TB hard drive to a powered USB3 hub with no other devices, the connection is stable. I've tested this with the original 18.04 server + hub and also with a second 18.04 server + hub in a separate location (the hard drive contains my video collection when traveling.) So this adapter is working as intended and I'm upgrading it to 5 Stars. INITIAL OVERVIEW Purchased to replace a failed USB interface in a Seagate USB3 5TB hard drive. This key works fine on my laptop connected via USB3. I've tried 3 separate OS scripts, each one works fine: - Native Windows 10 Home. - Ubuntu 18.04 guest virtual machine in VirtualBox. - Ubuntu 20.04 boots from a USB stick. USB3 port, it keeps disconnecting the USB connection. It can take 30 seconds, it can take 90 seconds, but it happens all the time. Even if I'm not actively reading or writing on the connected hard drive. An endless cycle of USB disconnects and reconnects. When I move this dongle to a USB2 port on an Ubuntu 18.04 server, it works great. No USB dropout. It's annoying, but since my main use case is playing video files, a USB2 connection is an acceptable workaround. The price of the dongle is low and it solves my main problem, so I don't want to deal with returns, but it should work stably when connected via USB3.
