It covers the blade carriage completely and to change blades I just have to open the carriage cover and unscrew the current blade, then put the new blade on the shaft and close the carriage cover. Leadership is not required. Just pay attention to how the current blade is deployed as the blue center has a thick side and a thin side. If you insert it the wrong way round you won't be able to close the lid and if that happens just hold the blade in the middle and you won't cut yourself. The cut is smooth and clean.
