In one of my historical fashion books there was a photo of an Elizabethan toddler wearing a baby hat with a thick ribbon around her head - something like this piece. When my daughter was learning to walk and climb, she fell and hit her head so many times that I was surprised she didn't have a single big bruise on her head. We have asked to help a young grandson who is one year old; I'm so glad I have a piece like this to prevent all those bruises and colds. Knee pads are a nice addition! The cap has a simple design - just a wide band with narrower cross padding at the top, narrow. Drawstrings under the chin and Velcro at the ends for size adjustment. It is almost light and can be washed. A very good thing for an adventurous but clumsy child.
