Easy to install, no need to connect to your sewage system.

This drain is perfect for my application. Our washing machine overflowed twice in the laundry room, flooding the laundry room. What a nightmare to clean up and remove all the water. We got new floors in the laundry room and hallway. After that, we hesitate due to past washing machine floods. Installing this gutter under the washing machine solved that problem and any future concerns about destroying the new floor. Future problems with the washing machine don't matter now because the water is dripping right under the washing machine. The size of the hole in the drain removes any water before it even spreads to the laundry floor. The beauty of this drain is that you don't have to connect it to the sewer system. It only intervenes in emergencies. It is not daily or regular running water. Since the drain has a scupper/p-trap system, I think you would call it that. The drain has a sump that must overflow to allow running water to pass through, but must not overflow through the drain itself. This water barrier in the system itself prevents exhaust fumes, insects, etc. from entering the interior of the house. This also prevents conditioned air from escaping to the outside/outside. The nice thing is that you can just create a whole on top of the floor and then bring the finished floor to the edge of the gutter and you're done. The drain allows water to flow fast enough so it drains fast enough to prevent water from spreading into our laundry room.
