P-2000 advantages Menus and buttons are clear, intuitive and easy to use. Quick thumbnail previews. The display is large, crisp, bright and perfect for viewing photos. Fast loading. The memory card slot design makes it easy to insert and remove cards with the push of a button. Accepts SD and Compact Flash cards without an adapter - Supplied with protective case, strap and display stand Scale or create slideshows with RAW files. If you shoot a .nef + JPG file, you can still resize, create a slideshow, and the JPG will automatically rotate for you. RAW files can't be rotated, but I didn't find this to be a problem as the device can easily be turned sideways, thus using the entire large screen for more viewing anyway. - No histogram display on RAW files (again, if you shoot with RAW + JPG you can display the histogram on JPG) - hard to buy in stock! Advantages of Flashtrax - One button download, no need to open the lid to start the download process - Improved raw file support, can rotate and scale raw files and show histogram. Offers an 80 GB variant. Cons of Flashtrax having to move the piece of rubber every time to insert the memory card - Compared to the p-2000, the screen is poor and the protective plastic is flimsy - The battery snaps at the end next to the loop and can pop out if you accidentally press the buttons on of the side - Slow startup speed - Uncomfortable grip and balance because you don't have to extend the screen. The foldable screen also makes it difficult to adjust the viewing angle of the screen when it's glaring. Before purchasing the P-2000 I had Flashtrax and an eFilm PicturePad which I use to upload raw digital photos. One fine day, eFilm stopped reading memory cards, but the rest of the functions worked. Even though it was under warranty, eFilm stopped manufacturing and couldn't fix it, so bought Flashtrax to replace it. I liked Flashtrax a lot more than PicturePad because its display, battery life, and menus were much better than efilm's. When my husband dropped the FlashTrax on the lawn, the screen broke even though it was folded at the time. It still worked perfectly, only the display was cracked. So don't think that a folding screen will protect your screen from breaking. The SmartDisk replaced the screen, but a few weeks ago my photography gear was stolen, so I went back to the market to look for a portable storage device. After reading the review of the R-2000 I decided to give it a try. (On the p-2000, the glass/plastic on the p-2000 screen and body seems to be much more durable than the FlashTrax, so I think it will stand up to rough play a bit better, although it doesn't fold. ) Now that I've worked with the P-2000 I wouldn't buy another Flashtrax. The P-2000 loads data from memory cards much faster, and the screen is bright, clear and large enough (3.8 inches) to get a detailed view of photos. The menu is more intuitive due to the more visual nature of the menu and the buttons are easier to use. The slideshow feature also automatically creates transitions to make the show look flawless with no effort. There are no fold-in or fold-out screens, making it easy to hold and adjust the screen for a direct, glare-free viewing experience. Line: If you're a professional or an enthusiast who shoots in RAW, you'll probably agree that Epson can improve support for RAW files. They should add the ability to view histograms and scale RAW files, which Epson hopefully will will do. in a future software update that I can just download. Shooting a small JPG helps get around this, but wastes disk space. Most of the time I just check my histograms while recording to see if I need to adjust the settings, so it's not a deal breaker for me. You will love the P-2000 for its great display and ease of use. It's much cheaper than buying 40GB compact flash cards, and it's also smaller and easier/faster to use in the field than a laptop. If you are an amateur photographer you will love the p-2000 as it is a handy device for storing/viewing thousands of photos. , listen in JPEG format and watch movies in QuickTime format. Definitely worth the wait if you can't find one to buy right away. Epson, if you're listening. You have a good product, could you increase production, improve raw file support and release an 80GB variant?
